Starting a new coding journey – Iron Yard

It’s official! I have packed up and made the commitment to my future. I am walking by faith to become a front-end software engineer. After years of trying to figure out what Bootcamp to attend I have chosen “Iron Yard”, in the Orlando area.

You might ask why Orlando…? The reason I choice Orlando is because of the sense of community.  I had when I attended a WordPress event back in 2015 and I couldn’t get over the fact how helpful and open people were with helping you learn to code.

Fast forward to 2017 – I had my first meeting with my cohort yesterday (Saturday-before we start classes March 13th). I can honestly say that I am nervous and scared – I don’t want to fail at this.  I understand that I’m supposed to feel this way – now but still…

I am here and I’m gonna shake off this feeling, of nerves and look forward to experiencing every day as its own. Coding one new experience as it comes. I’m trying not to have expectations cause I kinda don’t want to let myself down if things don’t pan out the way I want or see it.

What am I looking forward to?

Getting hired as a front-end software engineer with a sizeable starting package.

Be able to write and read Javascript with ease.

Understand how to think logically.

Be able to apply my new found knowledge in work and personal settings.

Mastering what to identify when learning new language documentations.

Rinse and repeat.

What concerns, do I have?

Failing hard.

If I’m being honest with myself I need to address my concerns fast, hard and early on. So I can get that out my system. I know with practice and repetition I will master the needed core skills to build a successful career.

Here is to the first of many more blog posts to come.

What lens should I buy for my Canon DLSR?

So, if you didn’t know I am the proud owner of a Canon T4i or better known as the Canon EOS Rebel T4i DSLR.

My girlfriend got it for me two christmas’s ago. Don’t get me wrong… It’s an awesome camera. It takes amazing photos and videos. But sadly I’m left feeling like I want more out of my camera.

And by more… I mean I want better images and the only way to get that is to buy better camera lens. Cause the stock lens that came with the camera just ain’t doin it!

I know that I have to come up with a plan… Figure out what I want to do and how I want to use this camera.  I’ve narrowed it down  to – wanting to do photo shoots for special projects and start producing youtube content.

I have been researching camera lens and looked at Sigma’s 30mm f/1.4, Sigma’s 50mm f1.4 and Sigma’s 10-20mm f/3.5 wide angle lens.  I’m thinking this is a good place to start. It’s now or never!

What do you think…?  Are you working on photo shoots? Do you have a channel on Youtube?  What lens are you using to film yourself? Let me know in the comments.
